Fact
1
Mike Elliot is also a former writer for the acclaimed hip-hop magazine The Source. He was an executive producer on the awards show for two years straight (1999-2000). He incorporated an experience that happened while he was working there into a deleted scene from Brown Sugar (2002) where Method Man went to Sydney's job, XXL and pulled out a gun on the editor for putting Judakiss on the cover instead of him. And, in an odd twist, the editor and Meth's bodyguards all have guns.
2
When Elliot shopped his first spec script "Seven Days" which eventually became Brown Sugar (2002) he was told the script was horrible. Then he took it to Magic Johnson Entertainment and, in an odd twist of fate, it was bought seven days after it was first rejected.
