Harley Leland Race (born April 11, 1943) is a retired American professional wrestler and is a current promoter and trainer. During his career as a wrestler, he worked for all of the major wrestling promotions, including the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), the American Wrestling Association (AWA), the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He held the NWA World Heavyweight Championship 8 times, and was the first NWA United States Heavyweight Champion, ( Mid Alantic version ) which is now known as the WWE United States Championship. Race is one of six men inducted into each of the WWE Hall of Fame, the NWA Hall of Fame, the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame.

Early in his career, tragedy struck when Harley was involved in a major car accident. Harley's injuries were so bad that doctors told him he may never walk and would definitely never wrestle again.

Was the first man to hold the version of the U.S. title that exists today in World Wrestling Entertainment. The title, which began in Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP), was awarded to Race in 1975, although for storyline purposes it was announced that he defeated Johnny Weaver in the finals of a tournament.
