On Sunday, July 16, 2023, hacker Kevin Mitnick, 59, who made headlines for serving time in prison for various computer and communications-related crimes, passed away.
One of the most wanted computer criminals in the US in the past was Kevin Mitnick, a former hacker.
The pancreatic cancer that Kevin was battling caused his death. The King David Memorial Chapel & Cemetery in Las Vegas reports that after receiving his diagnosis more than a year ago, he has been receiving treatment at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre.
The family may provide information about the obituary and funeral services later.
About Kevin Mitnick:
In Van Nuys, California, on August 6, 1963, Mitnick was born. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from James Monroe High School there. While there, he decided on the moniker “Condor” after seeing the film Three Days of the Condor.
Later, he enrolled in USC and Los Angeles Pierce College. He once served as the Stephen S. Wise Temple’s receptionist.
The 1990s criminal wave that saw Mr. Mitnick steal thousands of data files and credit card numbers from computers nationwide is what made him most famous.
He used his talents to break into the country’s phone and cellular networks to vandalize business, governmental, and academic computer systems.
In his New York Times best-selling book The Ghost in the Wires: My Adventures as the World’s Most Wanted Hacker, he writes about his time spent on the FBI’s Most Wanted List.
Supporters contended that his offenses had little impact and that no penalty was required. In contrast, the prosecution contended that his access to sensitive information could threaten national security.
Following Mitnick’s arrest, the Free Kevin movement gained momentum, and supporters rallied to support the man, who locals claim appeared to be a typical IT worker.
He fraudulently downloaded the program after accessing the company’s system, which allowed authorities to find and prosecute him in 1988.
He received a 12-month prison term and three additional years of supervised release. After his release, he was apprehended again for hacking Pacific Bell voicemail systems, and an arrest warrant was issued.
He escaped the law and spent 2.5 years living under the radar.
