In 1962, Solomons collaborated with fellow trailblazers in a New York City studio, driven by a fervent desire to revolutionize conventional perceptions of dance. While passionate about reshaping dance’s paradigms, he remained deeply committed to executing dance movements with precision and care. He found opportunities to showcase his talents within renowned ensembles including Martha Graham’s, Pearl Lang’s, Donald McKayle’s, Joyce Trisler’s, and Paul Sanasardo’s groups.
Nevertheless, the most transformative phase of his career during that era was the period from 1965 to 1968 when he engaged in creative collaboration with Merce Cunningham and his ensemble. Then, in 1972, Gus Solomons embarked on a pivotal new chapter by establishing his own dance company, which he aptly named the Gus Solomons Company/Dance.
